Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 3 page paper takes data from the NBER on health and uses it to demonstrate a statistical analysis starting with a hypothesis test. The data used is on the incidence of typhoid between 1900 and 1903. The bibliography cites 3 sources.

almost been radiated and is extremely rare in the modern world. However this was not the case, looking at the beginning of the twentieth, when death from typhoid were not
as uncommon as is seen in the State Mortality Data, 1900-1936 available from NBER. Looking at data from ten states in the US; Connecticut, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New
York, Rhode Island and Vermont, over the period 1900 - 1903 it may be expected that the death rates would be relativity similar across the four years of data.
However when looking at the data it appears that Indiana has a larger proportional number of death from typhoid compared to the other nine states. To consider this the
first stage is to develop an hypothesis and a null hypothesis. H1 = There is a greater likelihood that between the years of 1900 and 1903 an individual would
die of Typhoid in Indiana compared to the other states in the study. H0 = The potential of an individual dying from Typhoid in Indiana are no different from
any of the other states in the study, no greater or no less. The use of statistics can be used to assess the data and then use in
an hypothesis test, the idea is to test the null hypothesis, and only if this is rejected is the hypothesis accepted. Data has been collected and can be summarised by
