"republics." Yugoslavias creation and destruction were fundamentally different from those of the Soviet Union . . . . Yugoslavia was a state created voluntarily in 1918 by its various
nationalities and destroyed in 1991-92 by the Wests ad hoc recognition policy (Thomas 17(17)). Raju Thomas and others claim that there were also a number of contributing factors to the
"fall," but the main reason was caused by the quest for recognition as a sovereign state within the United Nations. However, the researcher in this subject should recognize that there
are a number of other reasons proposed for the dissolution of Yugoslavia which range from economic factors to political affiliations to protean ethnic relationships.
U.N. Recognition Donald Horowitz, an American specialist on nationalism and ethnic conflict, "noted appropriately that the secessions of Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia,
Montenegro, Bosnia, and Serbia followed the violent patterns of state dissolution elsewhere. He pointed out that states with no history of independence, such as Bosnia, were swiftly recognized without considering
the consequences" (Thomas 17(17)). The task of unifying Europe became an economic and territorial containment priority of the United Nations when
the Cold War ended. For this reason, sovereign recognition was offered to all dissolving countries who agreed to the terms of the quickly formulated European Unity. The United
States and Germany were the main contributors to the new developments, while England and other western states were slower to accept the unity point-blank. It was not realized by the
offering nations that the cultural differences between the various Yugoslavian ethnic groups would create the military and social problems that resulted from the offer. This is most likely true
