According to the Center for Substance Abuse Research, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, teens pose a particular threat to road safety, because they make up over half of all alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal accidents, as well as being responsible for more alcohol-related fatal crashes than any other age group. Moreover, this specific group of drunk drivers routinely demonstrates the highest blood alcohol concentrations; are nearly two times as likely as any other driver to have had at least one previous accident; have had their driver's license suspended or revoked four times more; and are the most resistant to change their drinking and driving habits. Studies have shown that the earlier alcohol is introduced to the system with regard to age, the more frequency of problems that will accompany the person as he or she gets older. Also significant to alcohol-related issues is if the person consumes a consistently higher amount every month and continues to do so without cutting back.
