a holy union between two individuals, individuals who commit themselves to work together to better their lives and the lives of their family. Too often, however, people marry too
young to appreciate the commitment that they are making. The result is more often than not more negative than positive. Young marriages
can occur for any number of reasons. Most often, however, they result from the headstrong view of the young person themselves that they are ready for something else.
The parental home may be regarded as too confining for the young person that is straining at the bit to get started with their lives as an adult. They
often resent their parents rules and feel that marriage is a way to get out of those rules. These individuals jump into a marriage because that is the only
option they see. In some cases, of course, there might be a real need to move on in life. In the case
of a teenager that is suffering abuse in the parental home, for example, a much better option might be to leave that home. Jumping into a marriage at a
young age, however, is not a real solution for the young adult. It might solve the abuse problem but it will introduce many many more problems that they are
unlikely to be able to handle. In situations of real abuse the young person should pursue other options. They should confide in a teacher, a pastor, another family
member that can help them find an alternate living arrangement. Marriage should not be regarded as a solution then even in this type of extreme case.
