continued good health. One of the most overlooked components of yoga is its ability to permeate into other aspects of ones consciousness.
Far from the no-pain, no-gain fitness formula, yoga is a kinder, gentler mode of exercise by which to address pain and disease management. Like Tai Chi, it focuses upon
precise movements, breathing and the art of listening to ones body; however, it also yields firm, strong muscles. The huge draw to this exercise method as a way to
control pain and disease is the positive mental aspect realized from the very first session. The precision of movements distinguishes this method from other forms of exercise in that
it calls for the precision of mind, as well. When ones mind is off the pain, the pain has a tendency to lessen and in some cases even temporarily
disappear. A series of controlled movements that engage several muscle groups at the same time results in often stretching one set as it strengthens another. While it promotes
strength, flexibility and stamina, yoga also heightens body awareness: The individual begins to pay exact attention to how movement, stance, breathing rhythm and even repose. The emphasis is placed
upon building a strong and stable powerhouse, both mentally and physically. Concentration is a strict element of this ancient art form, as is
