just as much support for year-round schooling due to its non-conformist nature. II. PROPONENT PERSPECTIVE Because todays schools are overcrowded, lacking funding and failing to properly educate their students,
year-round schooling has been implemented in myriad districts as a way in which to address these serious problems. Supporters contend that this particular option to the conventional counterpart is
viable alternative in a time when students are crammed into classrooms of thirty to forty people, where the instructor is hard pressed to teach the basics let alone delve into
anything that might require classroom participation. Furthermore, the severe space limitations present in the nations school system today is adequately addressed by year-round schooling, in that new schools do
not have to be built if the already-exploding student population is able to get its education on a more spread out basis. Currently, there are a handful of plans
for schools to follow: * The 45/15 plan. The year is divided into four equal groups, with 45 school days followed by 15 days of vacation. * The
60/20 plan. The year is divided into three equal groups, with 60 school days followed by 20 days of vacation. * The Orchard plan. Pioneered at the Orchard Elementary
School in Orem, Utah, in this plan school is in session for 11 months each year. Students are placed on one of five rotation tracks and attend school for 60
days followed by 15 days of vacation. All students and staff are on vacation in July, and receive two weeks off for winter break and one week for spring break.
