to management issues. At that time, information on the political side of management was lacking. Yates book grew out of his experience in creating the course material, as it "explores
the political dimensions of organizations" (Yates ix). As this suggests, the perspective of the author is academic in nature. Defining "political" as "relating to the management of conflict and of
bureaucracy," Yates purpose in writing this test is to examine the crucial role of business leaders as "conflict managers," while also exploring the strategies that they use that are "applicable
to public, private and nonprofit organizations" (Yates ix). The organization of the book reflects its origin as course material within an academic framework, as it largely follows a standard
