seen for the potential dangers they present. The re-unified Germany has faced one of the largest outbreaks or resurgence of such activities.
According to Singer (1996), the rapid capitalist invasion of eastern Europe, mass unemployment in western Europe and the bankruptcy of social democracy following the
collapse of the neo-Stalinist model are the three closely related crises that hit Europe after the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall. Failure to develop progressive, rational and universal solutions
has, in many instances, give rise to irrational, belligerent and reactionary solutions. The gravity of the danger has related directly to the severity of the regions economic crisis. As
a result, the former-East Germany has been especially shaken by the political and economic changes. Despite the potential and the ideological and "moral" victory, Germany is living in a
time of deep crisis. End of an Era The destruction of the Berlin Wall most certainly marked the end of an era in
European, German, and East-West political and social realities. When the Wall was demolished in November 1989 a wave of euphoria swept through Europe and the "free" world beyond. The wall
was a symbol of the vast repressions suffered by those living under Communist regimes, with its fall hopes of a united Germany and, ultimately, a more united Europe rose. The
indicators of success of societal change have been fast and furious while running the emotional and sociological gamut of joy to despair.
