The phenomenal growth of electronic communications, data interchange and the very foundation of manufacturers throughout the world has had more effect on the need for
a different approach to data retrieval and manipulation than has only the growth of the Internet. The Internet alone could support argument for another data format other than HTML,
but the addition of all these other current and potential applications provides sound support for the benefits of XML. Even the path that
many websites are following now places great strain on HTML. "Relational database systems cannot meet all the demands of electronic business because they process data independently of its context.
Traditional databases may be well suited for data that fits into rows and columns, but cannot adequately handle rich data such as audio, video, nested data structures or complex documents,
which are characteristic of typical Web content" (Why XML, 2001). There are data converters that translate HTML to XML for use, but the conversion is prone to error and
is inefficient when the information could be stored in XML from the outset. Greater Efficiency
