can broadcast their signals thousands of miles and those signals remain strong wherever they go. The transmission of satellite radio signals require specialized equipment. Satellite radios are also sometimes referred
to as digital radios. They can receive radio signals from space so the listener can hear whatever is being broadcast almost anywhere. In addition, the audio quality of
the signal is exceptional and is compared to listening to a compact disc on a stereo. It is expected that the satellite radio companies will soon be able to provide
their services to the entire world. BACKGROUND Incorporated in 1992, XM Satellite Radio Inc. has become an emerging force in broadcasting (XM..., 2006). XM Satellite Radio Inc. is a
wholly owned subsidiary of XM publicly traded on the NASDAQ exchange since October 5, 1999 (XM..., 2006). The founding of XM was the result of technological changes which had taken
since the FM radio in the 1970s. This creation of a third broadcast medium, that of satellite transmission has taken its place alongside the options of AM and FM
on the radio dial. XM is only one of two companies that have a license for this new radio technology (XM..., 2006). The other is Sirius Satellite Radio (MacDonald,
2006). Both XM and Sirius offer a subscription service which means that any user must pay a monthly fee to listen to the radio transmissions (MacDonald, 2006). The benefit
