Thankfully, this is no longer the case as x-rays and radiology produce images of tissue, organ and bones that aid doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals in arriving at accurate and life-saving diagnoses. As this suggests, the x-ray technician is a valuable and supportive member of the modern medical team. An X-ray technician, who is also known as a radiologic technologist, supports medical personnel by managing the processes involved with x-ray imaging, which includes "transporting and preparing patients for x-ray" and also providing patients with information (Bustamante). These vital support personnel are employed throughout the healthcare system, as x-ray technicians services are utilized within the offices of both private physicians and chiropractors, as well as medical and dental clinics (Bustamante). While not as common, x-ray technicians are also employed within the boundaries of industry and government services (Bustamante). However, hospitals constitute the principal employers of x-ray technicians (Bustamante). An x-ray technician receives training in how to use radiography in order to capture images of the body that provide physicians and radiologists with the information they need for formulating a diagnosis.
