The workplace presents several concerns as to how to best achieve the
workplace goals while still providing for worker rights and welfare. Effective workplace supervision shouldnt be equated with benign dictatorship. Regardless of how friendly a dictator is, he is
still a dictator. While this is true, too many have approached supervision in the workplace with the attitude that the workplace isnt a democracy either.
Authoritarians have the attitude that workers should be under the strict direction of their supervisor and, in effect, have little contribution to the workplace direction
other than the sweat of their brow so to speak (Whisenand, 2008). There are, however, better approaches to supervision. The purpose of this paper is to make suggestions
that will not only optimize work outcome but produce a pleasant work atmosphere where everyone works together to accomplish goals. McGregor (2005)
illuminates that people are actually motivated by responsibility and satisfaction. This is just as true in the workplace as it is in society as a whole. The workplace
