ideal to be able to foster a feeling of camaraderie amongst workers, even when there are differences in their backgrounds, but leaders sometimes face challenging situations when it comes to
this issue. Indeed, when it comes to attention to multiculturalism, there is a sense of attracting a diverse workforce, meeting with affirmative action mandates and incorporating basic sensitivity training into
a company. A good example of a shift is on the television show Rescue Me where a diversity class is initiated in a group of workers simply because a
woman complained that she was mistreated. She was called a nasty name related to gender. Ironically, while racial slurs abound on the show, the group is cohesive. There is no
problem with this particular team that one would think would possess numerous communication gaps. Instead, they are united by their desire to help people and they do their jobs well.
They are also united by a common variable as they are for the most part, men. Sometimes barriers are set up between men and women and this is important in
the scheme of things as well. However, with the big picture in mind, this is an example of a situation that works. At the same time, there are companies where
the people do not get along and racial slurs are whispered behind the backs of people, or actual disagreements amongst a diverse group, become apparent. In any workplace, where
there is a diverse populous, multicultural issues will inevitably crop up. The issues go beyond mere prejudice. For example, someone may practice a religion that requires them to cover their
heads, but there is a no hat rule in a particular business. When someone who wears a head covering is allowed to break the rule, it may cause problems for
