A teen volunteer at an animal shelter, Jesse P. from Norwell, Massachusetts, describes what his duties and the fellowship that he has enjoyed with the staff. Jesse says that
he walks the dogs, cleans kennels, grooms, feeds, plays and socializes with the cats and dogs (Working at, 2006). He enjoys anticipating meeting the new arrivals and seeing which animals
have been successfully adopted. He notes that animals, as with people, have their own individual personalities and the staff therefore assigns names to new arrivals that seem to fit the
animals identity (Working at, 2006). In regards to the fellowship that Jesse enjoys with fellow staff members, he writes that: Everyone associated with the shelter is a volunteer. They
include people of all ages and professions. I truly consider it a privilege, and a great pleasure, to be part of such a kind and cheerful group. I would recommend
it to anyone who shares my love for animals and I personally feel that I receive much more than Im able to give" (Working at, 2006). As this indicates,
