necessary to move to cities in order to survive. It was not a simple time and many people lived in utter squalor just trying to make enough to eat and live. The following paper envisions being back in the 19th century in Europe during the Industrial Revolution. The first portion of the paper offers information about this time period and the second portion involves a hypothetical first person narrative of the times. Working Conditions and the Industrial Revolution First and foremost, it should be understood that the person requesting this paper asks that the narrator create a letter of grievances for the owner of a factory in order to have better working conditions. This was not something people did because there were so many people looking for work, even young children, that people had no choice. As one author notes, "Workers could be fired for the slightest offence or no reason at all" (Boys Historical Clothing, 2002). This would clearly suggest that if a letter of grievances were given to the owner of a factory it is likely that the person giving that letter would be fired in light of the fact that there were many people who needed work, no matter how horrible the conditions. As such any attempt to better their conditions was seen through direct contact with officials, rather than mill owners. With those realities in mind the paper will continue along the lines of a letter of grievance sent to an official. I am a mother of 3 children and am married to a man who works in a local mine.
