Workers Compensation is a provision for people who are injured on the job. As might be expected,
the specifics of workers compensation law varies somewhat according to state. In Georgia, workers compensation falls under Georgia Statute 34-9. The Statute distinguishes between an injury incurred
on the job and a disease except where such disease is the natural and unavoidable result of the accident. The Georgia Statute regarding workers compensation extends as well to
cases where a preexisting condition is aggravated as a result of : " the course
of employment, but only for so long as the aggravation of the preexisting condition continues to be the cause of the disability
Georgias statute pertaining to workers compensation extends to all employers including the State of Georgia and to all employees who provide services for
pay. Workers compensation claims in Georgia can be made only when the employment occurs in relation to the employers main realm
of business. In other words, workers compensation claims could not be made against someone who has temporarily engaged a housekeeper or another service provider to perform a personal service.
In Georgia workers compensation benefits extend to the family or the legal representative of a worker in the event of that workers death.
