to which the choices are made, understanding the values attached to those choices, which in turn may reflect the level to which an employee is empowered to make those choices.
De Ceri (et al, 2003) defines this concept simply as in terms of a good work life balance from the perspective of the employee as "maintenance of a balance between
responsibilities at work and at home". 2. The Importance of the Work Life Balance Where there is a good work life balance there are a number of benefits for
the employer, many of which may be influenced directly or indirectly as a result of legislation. The importance of a positive work life balance may result in * Impact on
productivity * Reduced level of absenteeism * Easier recruitment and retention * Pleasant workplace environment By developing a good work life balance approach these may
also be impacted. Legislation may also impact on the way this takes place. Legislation may lay down minimum standards with which the employers are obliged to comply for all of
their employees and protect employees rights; reducing pressure from employers for employees to spend more time in work. This may include the provision of holiday time,
so that employees can spend time away from the workplace, a limit on the number of hours that an employee may be expected to work, this limits the amount of
