counterparts. One can go on about the glass ceiling and how instead of cleaning it women are now shattering it but that point has become a bit played out as
more and more women have taken high paying positions in fields that were once dominated by males. These doctors and CEOs are coming to work in heels instead of loafers
demonstrating that the feminist movement was not a waste of time. The major issue faced by these professional career oriented women exists in the divide of family life and professional
life. This paragraph helps the student provide an overview of gender roles as they relate to this issue. While women have made significant advancements in equality with their male counterparts
many are still restricted by constraining gender roles. These roles are leading women to "opt out" out of work in order to raise the children and keep the house in
order while their husbands often remain fully immersed in the work place. While this choice might first appear to be one made with free will, women are actually being influenced
by gender roles and perceived societal norms which state that as the woman, the wife, and the mother their primary focus should be that of family and not on careers.
