and cynicism after such losses, Wordsworth did not do this. An examination of critical opinion, as well as specific poems, reveals that Wordsworth never allowed loss to color his worldview,
remaining a poet of love throughout the entirety of his career. However, it should also be noted that, particularly after the death of his brother John, his faith is altered,
but it is not lost and Wordsworths poetry remains an affirmation of life. Biographical background Wordsworth was born on April 7, 1770 in the village of Cockermouth, which is
located in the Lake District of northwestern England, which is why later in life he was termed a "Lake Poet," along with Coleridge and Southey (Anonymous, 2002). His mother died
when Wordsworth was only eight years of age, and he lost his father five years later. The early loss of his mother has caused some critics to speculate that Wordsworth
saw nature as a surrogate mother (Anonymous, 2002). Wordsworths happiness as a married was shaken in 1805 with the death of his beloved brother John, who died tragically in a
shipwreck (Anonymous, 2002; Junaidul, 2000). Wordsworth worked out his grief over this event in several poems, most notably the "Elegiac Stanzas." Wordsworth also suffered a depressive state over the
French Revolution and his middle years were also saddened by the deaths of two of his children in 1812 (Junaidul, 2000). However, his poetry indicates that he managed to reconcile
