Students Can Help Each Other Learn to Read!" by Frances Butler was taken from a Gale Group library. The article has to do with peer tutoring and the acquisition of
sight words (Butler, 1999). Authors note that results are impressive and conclude: " Overall, students improved in their sight word reading through the usage of CWPT; they made an average
gain of one grade level in the eight-week period of the study" (Butler, 1999, p. 415). It appears as if the study authors are suggesting that peer
tutoring is effective, and this does entice a teacher to use such techniques in the classroom. Not only is the method effective, at least according to study data, but it
is practical as well. Teachers cannot always meet the needs of all of their students on a one to one basis, and peer tutoring is something that can be implemented
rather easily. Peer tutoring may not replace all that teachers do, but it is a good adjunct. The article infers that peer tutoring is a good practice and while this
seems to be the case, it should be stated that follow up is critical. There may be situations where peer tutoring is ill advised so teachers must carefully monitor the
