of the United States in 1912. As president, he would make a serious tour, something he did against medical advice ("Biography of Woodrow Wilson," 2007). He had a stroke, but
he did live until 1924, and by this time he was married for a second time ("Biography of Woodrow Wilson," 2007). That is a synopsis of one presidents life, but
his political life is quite intriguing. Again, it was the election of 1912 that would seal the fate of this man who would become president. Wilson was the Democratic candidate
at the time, and was also the governor of New Jersey ("Election of 1912," 2007). Taft was the incumbent, but interestingly, Roosevelt who had once been president was running
again, except under the Progressive Party this time ("Election of 1912," 2007). What happened was that Roosevelt helped Taft get elected in 1908, but soon afterwards believed that Taft abandoned
his own policies and Roosevelt tried to get back into the White House in 1912, an attempt that proved unsuccessful ("Biographies," 2001). During the 1912 campaign, Roosevelt was shot, but
he recovered ("Biographies," 2001). What happened was that when campaigning in Milwaukee, Roosevelt was shot in the chest by a fanatic and he was quoted as saying then: "No man
has had a happier life than I have led; a happier life in every way " ("Biographies," 2001). He likely thought he would die, but he managed to escape an
