the transformation of all types of biases, including gender, into a
subcatagory that has little or no meaning to the job at hand. This 5

Throughout the history of mankind there have been instances of major changes in the social, economic and political spheres. Somehow women have survived the Inquisition, the witch trials, the
industrial revolution and a plethora of wars and other tribulations. Society has changed over time and in accordance with geographical location. There is a very high likelihood that
women will not only survive but will be an integral component of the computer age. This prediction is based as much on the changing social atmosphere as on the
technology itself. Actually, the two are very much interconnected and will be increasingly so as communication technology advances. Women have stereotypically owned the airwaves, albeit in a
strictly negative sense. The image of the woman constantly on the telephone, chatting, gossiping and passing the time of day is an old and inaccurate one. The time
has come to not only change the image but to take control. The age of technology provides ample opportunity (and a degree of anonymity) for women to become actively
involved in the blossoming business of computer networking, among other information technology endeavors. Beginning in the early seventies the feminist movement used the buzzword, networking. At that time, networking
meant to utilize the contacts of women in a chosen area or field. It was a strategy for women entering the world of the workplace, specifically a male dominated
