decade of struggles involving civil rights, a decade of warfare that led the nation to rise up and protest, a decade of sexual and drug experimentation, and a decade of
pushing for the rights of women. It was, in many ways, a decade that further paved the way for change, especially in relationship to womens rights as many of the
rights they fought for in the 1960s became realities in the 1970s. The following paper examines various elements of the womens liberation movement in the 1960s and how these struggles
truly paved the way for change for the rights of all women. Womens Liberation of the 1960s One of the biggest
organizations that came into being in the 1960s, as it involved the rights and struggles of women, was the National Organization for Women (NOW). This organization, which came into being,
giving its purpose statement, in 1966. The organization stated "We, men and women who hereby constitute ourselves as the National Organization for Women, believe that the time has come for
a new movement toward true equality for all women in America, and toward a fully equal partnership of the sexes, as part of the world-wide revolution of human rights now
taking place within and beyond our national borders" (NOW). In this statement one sees that the organizations aim was to fight for the power of women, and to fight for
the rights of all people as well. It was an organization that aimed to truly push for a sense of human rights of all kind, clearly beginning with the rights
