this time for women were generally very active in their communities and in the society itself. Women were seen as vital, and essential to the success of the new land,
just as essential as the men. Even if they did not have a great deal of legal rights or employment opportunities does not mean they were not a crucial part
of the early stages of this nation, nor does it mean they were not recognized for their role. With that in mind the following paper examines womens responses to the
American Revolution as represented through the film Mary Sillimans War and the letters of Abigail Adams to her husband John Adams. Women in the American Revolution The film
Mary Sillimans War involves a woman whose husband was taken hostage by the Tories. She is a woman who, according to one critic, is very much like the traditional Quaker
people of the time. In this she was not really on one side or the other. She simply desired to be left alone, left out of the political turmoil that
was developing. But, when her husband was taken it was very hard for her to do nothing. She constantly ended up battling with the townspeople and the political powers in
her struggle to somehow try to find some solid ground to get her husband back. In these respects she was very intelligent and truly just wanted to have a life
away from the turmoil in the nation. But, she also began to realize that there was no possible way to do this for it was a revolution that ultimately forced
