be the case because the power of history has generally been something important to men, and thus generally recorded and supported by men. Many may argue it has long been
the concern of men far more than women in many cultures. As such finding real history concerning cultures that had no real written language, or method of recording history, as
it relates to women is difficult and perhaps often only found through legends or stories passed down through generations. When one looks
at Mexico today one quickly envisions that women are not truly equal to men in many respects. One could argue they are not even really respected by patriarchal societies. However,
it seems that this was not always the case, and perhaps was only the case once the Spaniards, and western influence, conquered the region. With that in mind the following
paper examines what information is available on the history of women in Toltec and Aztec history. Toltec There is a general
understanding that the word Toltec basically means men and women of understanding, people of understanding, which would infer that the origins of the culture believed women were of importance. There
is also an element to the culture that believes in the forces that are both feminine and masculine, studying both in order to better understand life and humanity. However, aside
from these presumably vague references to the importance of women in the Toltec culture not much solid evidence seems to point to women being consistently powerful through the history of
