Although it is true that women have come a long way, there is also room for growth. For instance, there has never been a woman in the Oval office, nor
has there even been a female Vice President. Women climb into politics and one has to wonder how far they had to walk to get to their positions and how
much further they would have to strive to get to the highest levels of government. Again, a female president with a possible first man is something that only science fiction
claims. Yet, while it seems to be an extraordinary goal, it is also true that many women have met some political goals, and made strides not seen in decades and
this is a topic that deserves to be studied. Mary Anne Borrelli (2002) looks at the roles that women have played in administrations for the most part since the Great
Depression through the current time period. This author looks at the ways in which situations are created so that there are gender related expectations in various offices (2002).
While nothing new, Borrelli treats the subject quite seriously, picking apart wordings in documents and nuances in speech in order to come up with valid and relevant scenarios. There are
a variety of issues addressed, including but not limited to the occupation of cabinet positions. Many people have noticed that more and more female faces are showing up in
high level positions. One good example is Condoleeza Rice who advices George W. Bush on serious international policy matters. Madeline Albright of the Clinton administration is yet another example. Yet,
