than attractive women with some hidden emotional issues. They are women that society looks at as being less than feminine. Yet, upon examination many of these women are driven to
a career in law enforcement for the same reasons as men, though they are clearly offered less opportunities than men. In "Women in Control?" by Frances Heidensohn we are provided
with an intricate and informative look at women in law enforcement. In the following paper we examine some of the aspects of the book, thus presenting an overall review of
the book. Women in Control In Heidensohns book we are presented with numerous queries such as how far women have come in such an unfeminine career, how far
they may want to go, and what others, primarily males in the profession, think of them. Heidensohn indicates that since the 1970s, which is when women were entering the workforce
in numerous career fields across the country, women have been struggling with the field of law enforcement. Her work takes us into the heart of the facts and the questions
by basing her book on interviews with British and U.S. officers. In doing so it presents us with a look at the reactions these women have received as well as
the treatment received. The work examines, as would be imagined, both the United States and Britain. According to one review of the book, we note that, "The public coverage
given to the alleged sex discrimination case of Alison Halford, the reported experience of a female officer who alleged she had been raped by a male colleague, and the (so
far not made publicly available) reports of widespread sexual harassment of female police officers by male officers, all lend weight to the view expressed by Heidensohn that more time needs
