When I consider the many forces which have combined to keep women subdued throughout the ages I become nauseated to say the least. Here we are at
the beginning of the twentieth century (early 1930s) and we still find our actions and even our ideologies driven by many of these same forces. Other forces are beginning
to appear as well, however. These forces have resulted from the unified voices of women who are no longer content to have our lives dictated by the males in
our lives. This determination, coupled with such factors as the war (World War I) which has recently engulfed the world as a whole have given us some hope that
our lives, our thoughts, and even our body images may someday be our own rather than fabrications of our patriarchal society! Today we
have a number of outlets for our pent up desire to find equality in a world which is based on inequality. The Progressive Movement is one of these outlets.
Through such movements we have made a difference. Look at such accomplishments as the labor laws we have effected for proof! Look at the inroads that are
being made in regard to the problem of racism! Look at the growing realization that beauty is not determined by the clothes one wears or even facial and body
features themselves. Beauty is determined by what is inside each of our hearts! We are women and we ARE beautiful, each and every one of us!
