that nature of young women in general, or it can be used to further define many possible coming of age stories that can prove harmful or helpful to a young
womans development within a story. All of these possibilities seem to be somewhat reflected in Alice Munros "Wild Swans" and Rosario Ferres "Sleeping Beauty." The following paper examines the two
stories, discussing the way in which women, or young women, are depicted and treated from a sexual perspective. The paper also examines how the young women see themselves in regards
to their sexuality. . Wild Swans In Munros story we have a young woman who is, by all appearances, a very good school girl. But, she is also
a young woman on the verge of change, and growth. As such she is really and truly ready to break free from societys expectations of her. She is, of course,
at this point in the story, uncertain as to how to do this. In fact, she is relatively unaware of her potentially dangerous side as a young woman. Society expects
her to be a good school girl and she seems just about ready, at the beginning of the story, to break free from this. What happens to this young woman
changes her, all but forcing her to see her own sexual nature in a way that she never realized. She is sexually molested by a man who is apparently unattractive,
yet the experience is something that she enjoys, while detesting. In this act she is transcending societys expectations of her, and her own limitations. This may not be a good
