dream, and dared to dream beyond it. Personal History As a girl growing up in England in the 1940s, Jane Goodalls earliest companion was a toy chimpanzee named
"Jubilee," and the stories of Tarzan and Dr. Dolittle were among her favorites. While she grew up determined to share a forest with her animal friends, she probably didnt
expect to achieve world-wide fame as a naturalist. Good relate one of her earliest animal memories:
"When I was four years old, I stayed on a farm where I helped to collect hens eggs. I became puzzled and asked those around me, Where is the hole
big enough for the eggs to come out? When no one answered to my satisfaction, I hid in a small, stuffy hen house for some four hours to find out.
