all the time, often without even noticing they are using it. The following paper examines what slang is, and where people use it, and then examines if women use slang
more often than men. Slang Slang is, for the most part, language that is not incredibly proper in that it is normally found in the dictionary, though most
slang words will find their way their eventually if they are used throughout the society for long enough. It is generally not the sort of language you use in writing
essays, or the type of language you use when conducting business at a bank. As for how we perceive it, "Based on our knowledge of our own culture, we might
also judge slang, as inferior and a form of deformation of a proper variety of language, or alternatively, as cool and innovative" (Ellis, 2002). We may use it as a
basis from which we judge others assuming they are unintelligent or "trendy and in touch with contemporary life" (Ellis, 2002). In addition, we note that, "slang can be described as
informal, nonstandard words or phrases (lexical innovations) which tend to originate in subcultures within a society" (Bullard et al., 2005). Such information clearly indicates that slang is used everywhere,
perhaps almost by everyone. There is slang for almost any "subculture" and a subculture can be as simple as a family or workplace, or as complex as a entire generational
culture such as seen in hip hop. Women and Slang Women, like men, often have their own slang that is used between women. For example, women can have
