more ammunition for those who agree with the war to use. Many objected to the demise of the Taliban, even if they were harboring terrorists, but feminists quickly pointed out
that the way women are treated is so atrocious that something must be done. One has to wonder if the stories are true. Are men allowed to kill adulterous
spouses? Are men really in charge in a Muslim household? A recent episode of the West Wing suggested that Muslim women would be killed if they were disobedient. What is
the reality of life for women in Muslim nations? The truth probably lies somewhere between the horrendous stories and the denial that anything is wrong at all, and while perhaps
there are injustices, one has to be careful of stereotypes. In fact, the U.S. government has warned Americans against generalizing about Muslims (Smith, 2002). Some journalists and scholars have tried
to clarify the point that although there are pictures of women in burkas who do not go out in public, they by no means represent the lives of most Muslim
women (2002). What are the lives of most like? How are women viewed in Muslim society? First, it should be noted that women in Muslim culture seem to be respected,
but they do not have the freedom that American women are used to. While that may be a difference, it does not mean that they are being mistreated. Also, not
