There were events, however, in history that have perhaps served to open the doors just a crack more, so to speak, that allowed for enough change to support the true feminist movements that have led to the equality of women in most areas of society in the Western world. The following paper examines how, if why, womens lives changed with the Black Plague, the Renaissance and Reformation. Women: The Plague, the Renaissance and Reformation In more ways than not, the events being examined did not drastically change the lives of women in any significant way, or perhaps in any significant way that offered them more power or more freedom as a whole. But, as inferred in the introduction, throughout history there have been struggles, achievements, and deviations from the norm in the lives of women throughout all arenas in history. As it involves the Black Plague most people understand the fact that a vast number of the population of Europe died from the disease. It was such a profound event that it changed the entire system of Europe and put much of the power in the hands of the common individual, an individual who had long been at the mercy of the feudal system. At the same time it also put the entire population of Westerners in a position where they truly questioned their faith and the need to believe in God. This does not mean they didnt believe, just that they felt, as a whole, that God was distant. For women this meant a bit more freedom, especially when many were likely left without husbands or fathers.
