learned from the book are developing skills for dealing with difficult people, creating boundaries, and using visualization to control ones life. These three pointers can help one to excel in
nursing practice because they deal directly with stressful situations, and provide practical solutions. For example, dealing with difficult people is the hardest part of any profession where human beings are
the focus of attention. In nursing, patients are the focus of the work. Therefore, the nurse will have to communicate with patients, families, doctors and other nurses as well as
agencies. Communication skills are important. If handled effectively, difficult situations can be empowering. At the very least, if handled properly, these situations do not mean that one will experience burnout.
The next pointer is to create boundaries. This is very important for all people. When a nurse does not establish boundaries, things may be challenging at work. Further, he or
she can be compromised because they are not operating from a place of strength. Finally, the last pointer is to create ones own experience with the technique of visualization. In
examining all of these pointers, it will become clear that they can help one excel in the nursing profession. The first pointer is to develop skills to work with, and
