Application Areas 16 8. Conclusion 18 References 19 1. Abstract Wireless networking has been inevitable ever since Marconi made his discovery and developed radio technology. The development of the technology has been aided
by the military during the world wars and the first wireless network was in operations in 1971 in Hawaii. The development continued, with the setting of standards and increased
knowledge of the potential. The increased usage helped to bring prices down and now there is the potential for data transfer speeds of up to 100-Mbps with some technologies.
The advantages are wide ranging, and include that of cost and flexibility, but the concern over security is jot as high as may be perceived, with wireless networks having greater
numbers of weak points. The current development are based on the technology and the access to wireless networks. The future hold many new developments, but the dominant development is
likely to be that of the increased integration with the communications industry. 2. History in Wireless Networking The development of wireless technology is associated with the 1990s, but
the foundations for wireless networks are many decades before this. The foundation of the technology today can be traced back to Guglielmo Marconi (Weightman, 2003). This inventors name is
well related with the radio and the development of crude wireless communications during the 19th century (Weightman, 2003). In 1894 Marconi was experimenting with radio waves also known
as Hertzian waves (Weightman, 2003). The goals was the production and detention of radio waves over long distances, this was a task in which he was to see success, and
for which e gained a patent in 1896. This may be seen as a century prior to the decade which is generally accredited with the initiation of wireless technology. This
