a serious illness or debilitating physical condition. Nearly a third of American adults suffer from obesity, with more than 70 percent of the U.S. population between the ages of
55 and 74 categorized as eing either overweight or obese (Nachtigal, Patterson, Stratton, Adams, Shattuck, & White, 2005, p. 909). According to National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, the
obese populations BMI increased from 22.5 percent to an alarming 30.5 percent (Nachtigal et al., 2005, p. 909). The cure for obesity is naturally losing weight, but there are
several approaches to weight loss that vary in overall effectiveness. Two of the most beneficial weapons in the battle against obesity are vitamin supplements and exercise. Nachtigal et al.
(2005) report that Americans spend more than $30 billion annually in weight loss attempts. In a large sampling of overweight and obese middle-aged men and women, it was discovered
that those who took supplements such as vitamin B6, B12, and multivitamins were better able to control weight gains than those who were not using vitamin supplements (Nachtigal et al.,
2005). B6 and B12 vitamins increase the metabolism, which is an important factor in weight control (Nachtigal et al., 2005). These vitamins also breakdown the glucose the body stores
to generate energy, which further assists in controlling how calories are used and to improve energy (Nachtigal et al., 2005). The more physically active individuals are, the less likelihood
