was certainly colorful and full of complexity. For the most part his life and his person are only examined through his life and his participation in conquering other peoples, with
the general consensus being that he was a less than noble man. The following paper presents two slightly different perspectives on the man. William the Conqueror #1 The
first examination, or article, discussing the life or position of William the Conqueror is comprised of a simple illustration and then and then a presentation of his description from the
Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. In the beginning of this examination the author notes that "No doubt the severity of his long struggle which occupied his youth and early manhood marred and
shaped his character" and as such "His personality certainly must be kept in mind when considering his achievements, especially his conquest of England in 1066" (William the Bastard (Conqueror)). In
this we can see that the author is not presenting William in a negative light, but trying to put into perspective what he did and the time in which he
lived. The author goes on to illustrate that, like most Normans perhaps, he was a very talented leader/ruler (William the Bastard (Conqueror)). He was strong enough and determined enough
to subdue all invasions and rebellion and was very successful at achieving peace and stability in the regions he conquered (William the Bastard (Conqueror)). And, he did this apparently though
getting rid of the Norman vassals and replacing them with English aristocracy (William the Bastard (Conqueror)). "He subdued the Scottish in the north and the Welsh in the
west. He laid the foundations for the modern bureaucratic state in England by creating the Domesday book, a record of all the resources in the kingdom and the annual income
