hero, Prince Hamlet of Denmark, there is a hero struggling to get out. The young college student has had to absorb many cataclysmic acts in a short period of
time - his fathers murder, and his mother Gertrudes marriage to her brother-in-law, Claudius. According to renowned Shakespearean scholar Andrew Cecil Bradley, Hamlet is "noble and trustful," traits that
are shaken but never destroyed by his "terrible disillusionment" (167). As Hamlet attempts to forge a heroic path for himself, he is visited by his fathers ghost, who blames
Claudius for his death and encourages Hamlet to seek vengeance for his murder. Hamlet is a man weighed down by the burden of responsibility - he feels an obligation
to follow in his fathers heroic footsteps, but knows this will not be easy. In order to do so, he must alienate himself from his mother, uncle, fianc?e Ophelia
and his old school chums, Rosencrantz and Guilderstern. The lone confident within whom he can share is inner torment is his loyal friend, Horatio. Hamlets suffering parallels the
tragic events of September 11, 2001, in which there was a mortal blow struck during the terrorists bombing attacks, and a passionate plea to avenge the murders of innocent victims.
