part of human life. The following paper examines the discoveries and importance of William Harvey. William Harvey: How Blood Flows "Born in Kent, Harvey was the oldest of
seven siblings, and benefited from a good education; after studying at Kings College, Canterbury, he gained a BA at Cambridge University" (BBC, 2006). He then went on to study under
the famed surgeon and scientist, Hieronymus Fabricius (BBC, 2006). It was perhaps Fabricius who laid the foundations for William and his interest in the flow of blood. Fabricius "was fascinated
by anatomy, recognised that the veins in the human body had one-way valves" but "puzzled as to their function" (BBC, 2006). Harvey
would go on to do further research on this question, experimenting and studying what the valves of the heart did and how blood flow worked. "Harveys research was furthered through
the dissection of animals" (BBC, 2006). He did this work at a time when people "believed that food was converted into blood by the liver, then was consumed as fuel
by the body" (William Harvey, 2006). Because he had done so much dissecting of animals he knew full well that this was not the case (William Harvey, 2006).
Another author indicates that, "Most physicians of the time felt that the lungs were responsible for moving the blood around throughout the body. Harvey
