the 20th century. Faulkner was born in New Albany, Mississippi, on September, 25, 1897" (The Mississippi Writers and Musicians Project at Starkville High School). In his experiences growing up he
seemed intent on creating his own little community, his own world. As one author notes, "In an attempt to create a saga of his own, Faulkner has invented a host
of characters typical of the historical growth and subsequent decadence of the South. The human drama in Faulkners novels is then built on the model of the actual, historical drama
extending over almost a century and a half" with each story and novel contributing "to the construction of a whole, which is the imaginary Yoknapatawpha County and its inhabitants" (William
Faulkner - Biography). Two of his creative works are "The Sound and the Fury" and "Light in August." The following paper examines these two novels, illustrating how they create a
unique vision of a community. The paper examines the structures, themes, characters, narrative and other elements possessed in the stories. The Sound and The Fury Published in 1929 it
was one of the first novels Faulkner ever wrote. "Many critics and even Faulkner himself think that it is the best novel that he wrote. Its subject is the downfall
of the Compson family, the offspring of the pioneer Jason Lycurgus Compson" (Classicnotes [1]). Within the family we see a very Faulkner type structure as his works are always immersed
in the complexity of family and community. "The family consists of Jason Compson III and his wife Caroline, their four children Jason IV, Quentin, Candace (Caddy), and Maury (whose name
