Taylor set out to write the history of Cooperstown, he did not think that he would stumble on such an thrilling chapter in upstate New Yorks history. The work on
William Cooper, and the origins of Cooperstown is exciting. It is written in such a way as to compel a reader to turn the pages. The author is successful in
his task of conveying much desired literature on history, but also opens doors for readers who crave exciting, challenging materials. Certainly William Coopers town is food for thought and further
exploration into New Yorks hidden history. But Taylor does a fine job of providing much information about the town founded by William Cooper late in the eighteenth century. II.
Summary This historical work focuses on the man named William Cooper. He founded Cooperstown in 1786. Another aspect of this work concerns Coopers own son, James Fenimore Cooper, who
uses his fathers life in his fictitious works. Of course, one knows a bit about Cooper already by the fact that he had a son who grew up to
be an author. Yes, Cooper did marry and have children. However, Taylor explores Coopers relationship with his wife and her family. It seems that Coopers success in marriage was more
than a mere romantic liaison. Rather, it seems that his relationship with his wifes family elevated him politically. And that is a major concern of the book. Throughout the story
one sees elements of political power ploys and family fortunes. While these side issues are expressed it is also important to note that the work is above all a historic
