prized sheepskin -- which is such a hot commodity these days for even the most basic of entry level positions -- is not any help in landing him a job.
To make ends meet, John makes application with a local restaurant looking for bus help. He has plenty of experience, since that was the occupation that put him through
four years of college. The employer agrees he is the most qualified for the job but gives the position to Juan Lopez, an immigrant who has been in the
country just two months. Through the grapevine, John learns the only reason Juan got the job over him was because the employer knew did not have to pay full wage
to an illegal alien, thus also did not have to pay taxes or workmans comp insurance premiums. In effect, John was cheated out of a job in his own
country by someone who not only was not a citizen and therefore was not required to pay taxes, but by someone who -- for the mere purpose of being slave
labor -- would accept a much lower wage. It is an all-too-familiar story across the United States: immigrants -- whether legal or illegal -- infiltrating America in search of a
better life. In the interim, they are stealing jobs, housing, adding greatly to the overpopulation problem and obtaining government benefits right from under the struggling efforts of many United
States citizens. It is not fair for "native-born" (Rogoway PG), tax-paying residents to have to compete for what is rightfully theirs. Public sentiment regarding the immigration issue is
