the most studied and dissected wars and still it seems to elude concrete answers in many ways. There is the complexity of the growing technology that truly made an impact
in the Civil War, brining quicker communication, faster travel with the railroads, and confusing technology in relationship to guns and ships. In all honesty, it is a war that many
believe could well have gone either way. The way it went, however, was to the North. There is a great deal of controversy and study over why the South
lost the war and the North won. Some argue it was economics but the South was a very rich region, so rich that its powerful economy could well be argued
as one of the reasons for war in the first place. There are those who argue one side had more man power, or that one side or the other dealt
with the possibilities inherently possessed by new technology better. Others may say it was just a matter of luck in one battle or another, or the lucky placement of the
right leader at the right place and time. With such possibilities it may well be that the answer to why the South lost and the North won will never really
have any solid answer. The following paper examines reasons why the South lost, and focuses on the fact that it likely lost due to the fact it did not have
the same sense of nationalism, the same sense of solidarity as the North as clearly represented in the strength of the leader Abraham Lincoln. Why the South Lost
