applicable to the world today. When the nation was founded, there were a multitude of people, but they were largely Protestants running from religious persecution. Today, the country is a
nation of immigrants, but there are a multitude of immigrants, and minority groups, that represents a new America. As the twenty-first century begins, it is prudent to take a look
at some of the old documents-such as Federalist Nos. 10 and 51-- to see if they are still applicable. In so doing, the papers noted appear to favor the majority
without really allowing for diverse opinions. It seems that in order to forge ahead in a society that is continually changing, a re-examination of the creation of the state is
in order. The scope of the underlying problem is not so much that old literature needs to be discarded, but rather, changes should be made based on current events,
not things that occurred during the 1770s. One example is that the Second Amendment is held up by gun enthusiasts, but during the days when the country was founded there
was no modern police force. People had to defend themselves. Further, there was not a rash of school shootings. There was not the organized crime that exists today with gang
recruitment of children as young as eight or ten. This is just one example as to why the things written centuries ago may not apply to todays new world. In
delving back in time, Federalist No. 10 and Federalist No. 51 should be examined. In Federalist 10, it is noted that while there are remedies for controlling the public,
there is a danger of creating a state that is homogenous. After all, the people are different and it is liberty that is supposed to be upheld. However, it goes
