Here, capitalism would falter because there world be a conflict between the owners of the means of production and the producers, or workers, who will finally become fed up. The
statement suggests a scenario that may be aligned with general Marxist ideology. That is, capitalism creates conflict because it is aligned with a class divide. The only remedy is for
this is revolution. In fact, Marx predicted that this would come about in the book he wrote with Friedrich Engels entitled The Communist Manifesto. Although the prediction has never come
true in quite the way Marx envisioned, one can point to the Russian Revolution and other early twentieth century conflicts as evidence that such uprisings do occur. Similarly, other past
wars such as the French Revolution, did come about due to class conflict. E. Kamenka, the editor of The Portable Marx comments: "To some, Mans philosophical critique of modern society-his
concern with freedom, universality, and rationality, his treatment of the distinction between the social and the political, and his development of the concept of alienation-seems, more interesting and perhaps more
lasting than his subsequent analysis of the social and economic ramifications of private property in the means of production or his associated doctrines of class struggle, of the economic contradictions
of capitalism, and of the coming expropriation of the expropriators" (Marx 75-76). Here, it is suggested that perhaps alienation, or how the workers feel, is the most pertinent part of
Marxism. Indeed, it explains the "why" of the theory. Why is there conflict? People feel alienated. They have nothing to lose. Then, they will be more likely to form groups
