When we turn on the television we either see law enforcement programs like CSI and Law and Order, action flicks where people seem to kill just for the rush
of killing, or vampire shows where the vampire is the hero or heroine. Death is definitely an attractant to modern society. On the one hand, of course, it
could be argued that the concept of death is so universally intriguing to human beings because all human beings face death as an inevitable consequence of life. There seems
to be much more to the equation, however. It seems that we are at a time in world history where death is given much more emphasis than life at
some times. On the other hand, however, it seems like we focus much more on death today than we have at any other point in civilized history. The
argument could be presented that the reason for this is two fold. First, there has been a general decline in siocetal mores and this has resulted not only in
a greater propensity to kill but also in a type of gory fascination with anything surrounding death. Secondly, our society is technologically more advanced than it has ever been
and this gives us a different understanding of death than we have had at any other point and, in fact, a greater degree of control over it. That our society
has degenerated morally is obvious to even the most casual observer. Violence has permeated practically every aspect of our society. From the news we read to our entertainment
choices violence seems to be an ever-present element. Not only is crime is at an all-time high, the types of crimes that are being perpetuated are progressively more gruesome
