indication that K-Mart was slipping under the pressure of its competitor is the fact that Wal-Mart was placing bigger, better and more sufficiently stocked super stores directly within range of
existing K-Mart stores. This, coupled with the fact that K-Mart could not keep up with the gleaming aesthetics of the new Wal-Mart stores, posed a considerable problem with regard
to retaining customers. Their inventory was consistently low to the point that many items were regularly out of stock or merely sitting in the back room without the necessary
personnel to properly stock them. Consumers became frustrated that basic items were not available, but they also did not appreciate it when the registers overcharged them at the check-out
stand. This problem was traced to poor inventory control, reflecting the fact that prices that were old and out of date. In the meantime, Wal-Mart continued bombarding K-Marts established
areas with their super stores, even incorporating grocery stores into their newer structures. Consumers were thrilled with the opportunity to be able to do all their shopping at one
location, while at K-Mart they were lucky to find one out of three items on their list, and even that was ultimately wrongly tagged. To put it plainly, K-Mart
