nature of propaganda amidst a significantly broader perspective in Voltaires account. Propaganda reflects the attempt to distort or sway an individuals perception by means of deception; by setting the
stage through a single viewpoint, Voltaire is quite able to - and often accused of - employing literary propaganda as a means by which to impart a particular ideology or
world view upon his readers. Probing Candide in the context of this assertion allows one to realize how certain social issues accepted without argument have Voltaire writhing in a
context of antiestablishment rhetoric. Doctor Pangloss claim that "all is for the best in this best of all possible worlds" (Voltaire PG) illustrates
