the American people at least early on, support is waning. People are getting leery about having so many young soldiers over in Iraq, dying each day, when there does not
seem to be a valid reason for its continuance. Cindy Sheehan has given a face to the fight for brining home the troops. Fueled by the loss of her own
son in the war, she now is quite vocal about its futility. Iraq is a conflict that should be over and many believe that the boys and girls should be
brought home. Yet, withdrawal seemingly comes with a price. There is argument that goes to the idea that the immediate and complete withdrawal of troops will negatively affect the United
States as well as Iraq. Yet, there does not seem to be a substantiation of that claim. In fact, there is no reason why troop withdrawal is a bad idea.
Republicans for example contend that immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq would be a mistake and more progress toward stability should be realized prior to making such an immense change (Bacon
24). President Bush recently spoke and defended American presence in Iraq, suggesting that when progress is made, that troop levels would be decreased (Page A6). Page writes: " He suggested
that those (mostly Democrats) who have called for withdrawal from Iraq would increase the danger to Americans at home" (A6). One would think that the opposite is the case. After
all, if troops are withdrawn from Iraq, there would be less hatred towards the American people. There does not seem to be a reason why the conflict would become more
dangerous than it is already. Another reason for the immediate withdrawal of troops goes to the idea that terrorism is something that, according to LeVine, simply cannot be prevented (3B).
