new" (Ickes-Dunbar, et al 34). This--in a nutshell--is why I want to be a teacher. Having tutored (or taught in Sunday School, or having taught younger brother or sisters, whatever
is applicable to the students personal history), I know that look and can therefore imagine the professional satisfaction that must come with a teaching career. There is, of course, a
lot of hard work in obtaining that look and knowing that a student has made a break through in understanding. I do not expect it to be easy, but the
rewards of helping children learn will be well worth the effort. The Elementary School years appeal to me because this is the time when children acquire the academic foundation
that will serve them throughout the rest of their schooling. It is a time in their lives where they acquire habits of learning that they will employ for the rest
of their lives. Early Childhood Education is also instrumental to providing an academic foundation, but elementary-aged students are still young enough to be impressionable, yet old enough to address
some meaty subjects, such as science, geography, history and literature. Whenever I work with children, one fact constantly emerges, which is that all children learn. It seems to be
an act of childhood that comes readily, as children will absorb all sorts of information, soaking it up like a sponge. As learning is a natural part of childhood, the
implication is, of course, that all children have this potential. If learning is not taking place, this suggests that there is a problem. Perhaps the problem lies with the way
that the information is presented, as some children are visual learners, needing hands-on experience, and others are oral learners and can learn from being told. In finding the root of
